1) What is a Voter ID (EPIC)?

A Voter ID card, officially called the Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC), is a government-issued photo ID that proves you are a registered voter.

With a Voter ID:

  • You can vote in elections in your area.
  • It is valid all over India.
  • It is issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
  • It is often accepted as identity and address proof for banks, SIM cards, government work, etc.

👉 Just having the card is not enough.
Your name must be listed in the electoral roll (voters’ list) of your constituency. Only then you can vote.

2) Documents Required for Voter ID Application

You need documents to prove who you are, your age, and where you live.

A. Identity / Age Proof (Any ONE)

You must be 18 years or older. Any one of the following is acceptable:

  • Birth certificate
  • Class 10 or Class 12 marksheet / certificate
  • Passport
  • Driving licence
  • PAN card
  • Aadhaar card

💡 Important:
You do not need a birth certificate compulsorily.
Class 10 marksheet, Aadhaar, PAN, passport, etc. are perfectly fine.

B. Address Proof (Any ONE)

This is to confirm where you normally live:

  • Aadhaar card
  • Passport
  • Driving licence
  • Latest electricity or water bill
  • Registered rent / lease agreement
  • Bank or post office passbook
  • Ration card or income tax documents
  • Registered sale deed (if the house is in your name)

👉 The address you enter in the form must match your document.

C. Photographs

  • Recent passport-size colour photo
  • Clear, not blurred
  • Similar to the photo you upload online

📌 If you apply online, you may not need to upload all documents immediately.
The Booth Level Officer (BLO) may check documents during a home visit.
